About Phoebe Cates
Phoebe Belle Cates Kline (born July 16, 1963) is a former American actress, known primarily for her roles in films such as ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’, ‘Gremlins’ and ‘Drop Dead Fred’. At the age of ten, Cates started modeling, appearing in Seventeen and other teen-oriented magazines. A few years later, she wanted to become a dancer, however, dissatisfied with modeling, Cates pursued acting.
She was offered her first part in the movie ‘Paradise’, which then led to appearing in titles such as ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’, ‘Private School’, ‘Gremlins’, ‘Lace’ and ‘Lace 2’ among many others. Cates continued to appear steadily in films through the early 1990s, usually in supporting roles or as part of ensemble casts. These include ‘Date with an Angel’, ‘Bright Lights, Big City’, ‘Heart of Dixie’, ‘Shag’, ‘Drop Dead Fred’ and ‘Bodies, Rest & Motion’. Cates’ acting career came to a halt in 1994 so she could better take care of her children, making a brief return in 2001 for the film ‘The Anniversary Party’. Learn More…
